Got yards of\u003cbr\u003ehandwovens but don't know what to do next? Are you a Saori weaver who wants to learn to cut sew? This workshop is for you!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn day one, we will learn how to sew basic seams, do some sewing machine adjustments and use a variety of seam finishes (flat-felled, French seam, Hong Kong finishes and more) using “practice” commercial fabrics. We will cover sewing pattern conventions, layouts for cutting and how to choose a good commercial sewing pattern that works well\u003cbr\u003ewith handwoven yardage. We will introduce you to finishing on a serger and ways to stabilize handwovens before cutting into them. On day two we will practice these\u003cbr\u003etechniques on your own handwoven fabrics to create either a tote bag or Japanese Rice Bag so you can practice your new skills. In this workshop, students will bring in their ‘precious’ fabrics, clothing, trims and embellishments and will develop a plan for creating a beautiful new garment. Using commercial sewing patterns as a template, students will learn creative ways to use pattern pieces as a canvas for showcasing their beloved fabrics. Seam finishes and other surface design sewing techniques will be included\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSkill level: Students should have basic sewing knowledge and a machine that they\u003cbr\u003eare comfortable sewing on. Students should come with their collection of fabric treasures, a few coordinating fabrics that they would like to use and a pattern or two that they like. Instructor can suggest patterns that work well for this technique. In class, students create a with a plan on how to combine\u003cbr\u003etheir fabrics and a blueprint for ‘what goes where’ and willl begin cutting and sewing their new cloth for their chosen garment.
