Tahkli Spindle

The Tahkli Spindle was developed in India where cotton was cultivated and spun for thousands of years. Brookmoore Creations sells the traditional spindle which is made w/a brass whorl and a metal shaft. In the past, people often used a coin as a whorl! The thin shaft, wide whorl and very pointy tip allows them to spin very fast– perfect for fine cotton and any other short fiber such as cashmere, qivuit or yak.

The Tahkli is commonly known as asupport spindle because a bowl (wooden, ceramic or glass) is used to support the spindle as it spins. Brookmoore Creations sells handmade support bowls with attached handles-eliminating bowl slippage for the spinner.
