A Practical Study in Color-and-Weave Effects
How do colors truly interact on the loom? This intensive workshop offers a unique, hands-on opportunity to answer that question through the waving of 12 functional towels.
This class is designed as a "round robin," an efficient and immersive format where each student weaves on 12 different looms that have been pre-warped with a unique color-and-weave structure. By exploring different weft colors across different warps, you will gain firsthand insight into how color relationships and weave structures dictate the final appearance of a fabric.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Explore Foundational Structures: Gain practical experience with a dozen different color-and-weave effects, including but not limited to: Log Cabin, Shadow Weave, Echo and Iris, and Canvas Weave.
- Master Color Theory: Move beyond abstract concepts. You will learn to identify and apply principles of value, saturation, and contrast to predict and control your woven results.
- Analyze Fabric Properties: Compare the hand, drape, and visual effect of multiple weave structures side-by-side.
- Efficient Production: Experience the joy of creating a full set of twelve distinct yet harmonious towels without warping a single loom.
This workshop is perfect for the weaver looking to deepen their understanding of color interaction and build confidence in designing their own vibrant textiles. You will leave with a valuable reference collection you wove yourself.
