About Class

Date: October 4, 2025

Time: 9am- 4pm

Have you enjoyed knitting with different colors but wanted to take your skills to the
next level? Why not dive into the world of Fair Isle Knitting? Fair Isle knitting is a
type of stranded color work developed in the Shetland Islands of Scotland.
This 1-day introductory class will provide a foundation for the terminology and
techniques that any knitter with an understanding of basic knitting techniques (knit,
purl, cast on, cast off) needs to start creating Fair Isle garments.

During our time together we will discuss how to read pattern charts, knitting in the
round, carrying colors including floats and tension, the structure of different
garments, different design elements, and finally steeking for front openings and
armholes. Additionally we will talk through finishing of garments.

Students will have the opportunity to practice what is discussed through creation of
a Fair Isle sampler in class of approximately 5”x14” size when blocked and finished.
And, yes, we will steek in class, so get ready to use those scissors!

Materials for the class are included with tuition, and you will have the opportunity
to pick the color of your yarns on the day of the class.
