About Class

Date: July 9-11, 2025

Time: 9am- 4pm

I am sure you have seen and admired those scarves that draw you in, colors that bleed one into the other in a very organic presentation. Painted warps transforms how we as weavers, accustomed to creating very linear compositions morph into one in which serendipity and individuality rule.  In this workshop you will be given a pre-wound warp of 20/2 silk. Sara will guide you through the steps from winding the warps, to the mordanting process to at last dying the natural colored silk with colors to suit your personal aesthetics. On day two you then warp one of our looms with this fabulous and one-of-a-kind dyed warp, then thread it to a choice of four or eight shaft twill patterns. For the weaving of our shawl we will be using 8/2 Tencel for the weft in your scarves because it offers a variety of colors and has the look and feel of silk. Come and join us for the exciting experience that you might feel a bit intimidating to try at home by yourself. Here at Red Stone Glen, located at our Ridge classroom we have a fabulous dye studio brimming with inspiration and stocked with all the tools you need to create this amazing silk scarf. You do not need to be an experienced dyer to take this workshop, but should be a confident and independent weaver.

All materials included in tuition.

Schedule is slightly modified for this class.

The first day lecture begins at 1:00PM at the Ridge and the remaining 2 days start at 9:00AM at the Glen.
