A Sea, Sand & Textile Get-Away

Red Stone Glen is hosting a fiber retreat in the Outer banks. Join us for a getaway where like minded fiber artists meet to learn, explore and most importantly unwind at this beautiful beach destination.

October is our favorite time of year to be in the Outer Banks, with temperatures averaging in the mid-70s and perfect kite flying winds, that's when we want to feel the sand on our toes. Join us for our first annual textile retreat in Kill Devil North Carolina, where textile artists gather to not only unwind, but come together and create. This seaside getaway encourages you to pack up your spinning wheel, travel friendly loom, knitting project, quilt pieces or all of the above and join us for a week you'll not soon forget.

Lectures & Excursions

In addition to our open format, each day we will have (optional attendance) scheduled events including; lectures on regional textile history, off site excursions to local attractions, shopping and fun activities at the house, or on the beach. Full itineraries will be included with you welcome swag bag. All fees for offsite experiences are included with your retreat fees.

Food

After registering, you will be sent a food and allergy survey we can use to better meet your dietary needs. All meals, with the exception of one dinner, are included with your registration. Meals will be prepared by our ANSI food handler certified staff.

• Breakfast will include each day a variety of breakfast offerings buffet style including cereals, breads, fruits, breakfast meats as well as cold and hot beverage options.
• Lunches will include a make your own sandwich line, salad bar, sides, fruits and daily soup option. Cold and hot beverage options will also be available.
• Dinners will be themed each evening to provide a range of local seafood, international nights, good ol' poolside cook outs and more. There will be one schedule evening where guest are encouraged to help us clear out the leftovers, or treat yourself to a night out on the town and enjoy some local fare. This is the only meal that is not included with your registration.

Getting There

Getting to the retreat is accessible by car or plane. With plenty of onsite parking, guest are welcome to drive their own car, ride with a friend or let us pick you up at the airport. Parking area will be clearly marked for our group and phone numbers will be provided for you to reach us at any point during your journey, should you need to update us on any arrival changes, or need assistance.

Transportation

Should you choose to fly into the Norfolk International airport please be sure to select the airport shuttle add-on during your registration. For half the cost of an Uber of the same distance, ride with our staff safely to our retreat and your flight back home.

For all planned offsite excursions, Red Stone Glen will provide van transportation for the entire group.

Rooms

Each guest will be greeted with their own private room with an en suite bathroom. Comfortable, well-lit and total privacy just for you. Each room has plenty of drawers and closet space to unpack to truly settle in while you're here. No shared room options available.

Evening Entertainment

Enjoy the night how you like...Themed meals and evening socials you won't want to miss.

• BYOB- Kick back and enjoy snacks and adult beverages in one of the common areas or pool side.
• Join us each evening for the 9pm movie showcase in the home theatre on the ground floor with local Outer Banks Pop Corn on hand.
• Talk a walk on the beach, look for ghost crabs or take in the star filled skies.
• Cards, board games and puzzles.
• And of course... more crafting time!

About the House

Experience the beauty of "Aphrodite", a luxurious oceanfront home like no other! This extraordinary home was designed to host large groups like ours, with style, comfort, and functionality in mind. Beautifully landscaped gardens flank the driveway and main entrance to the home. The impressive open foyer, that spans up to the third floor, offers the perfect dramatic entrance to the home.

Abundant common spaces allow for small group gatherings for looms, wheels and more all throughout the home. Each floor has a bar, and views of the ocean may be enjoyed from the dining and pub areas on the top level. The kitchen's open plan allows for socialization while meals are being served among the entire group. The dining spaces also extend out on to the patio spaces and decks.

The lower level consists of a theatre room, arcade, and a kitchenette with pass-through windows to the pool area, perfect for ice cream socials. A large common area opens to the covered terrace, which opens to the pool complex.

The pool area is a lovely outdoor oasis, carefully designed to include a large HEATED pool, perfect for October. The pool includes a lazy river around the perimeter, offering guests the opportunity to soak up the sunshine while effortlessly floating around. For those who really want to unwind, spend time in one of the three hot tubs, yes THREE HOT TUBS! Adjacent to the pool deck is a three-story cabana, featuring a tiki bar, covered lounge, and rooftop deck, which connects back to levels two and three of the main home via decks. Stunning panoramic ocean views can be enjoyed while kicking back on the rooftop deck. A dune deck perches at the top of the dune line, and is an amazing place to watch a famous Outer Banks sunrise.

Just a short walk over the dunes, along a well appointed boardwalk we have direct access to the beach. We are very much looking forward to sunrise coffee and shell hunting, you're welcome to join.
