About class
Date: June 12 and 13, 2026
Time: 9am- 4pm
Sewists, weavers & fabric collectors often have stashes of “special” fabric that they dream of using but are fearful of taking scissors to. Some people have clothing they love that is outdated or unflattering that they would like to celebrate in a new garment. In this workshop, students will bring in their ‘precious’ fabrics, clothing, trims and embellishments and will develop a plan for creating a beautiful new garment. Using commercial sewing patterns as a template, students will learn creative ways to use pattern pieces as a canvas for showcasing their beloved fabrics. Seam finishes and other surface design sewing techniques will be included
Skill level: Students should have basic sewing knowledge and a machine that they
are comfortable sewing on. This is NOT a ‘learn to sew’ workshop, although adventurous beginners are welcome.
NOTE: if you’ve taken Introduction to Sewing for Handweavers, this is the next level
workshop to expand your skills.
